31-year-old Cole Allen has pleaded not guilty in federal court after being accused of bursting through a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and allegedly firing shots in an attempt to kill President Trump. Read on to discover the full story!
Allen appeared in federal court Monday and denies the charges. Prosecutors have lodged a raft of counts, including attempting to kill the President, assaulting law enforcement, transporting a firearm across state lines to commit a felony, and discharging a weapon during a crime of violence. If convicted he could face life in prison.
Authorities say Allen charged through a security checkpoint armed with a rifle and other weapons, opened fire and struck a Secret Service officer’s bulletproof vest before agents tackled him. He was stopped before reaching the ballroom at the Washington Hilton on April 25.
