On May 7 the White House posted photos of Trump inspecting the ongoing renovation. The president met workers during a roughly 30-minute stop, and video showed his motorcade driving through the currently empty pool.

His message

Trump said the project will replace the pool's “gray stone” with a blue swimming-pool color and predicted it will look “better than it did in 1922.” He told reporters crews had removed “truckloads of filth,” and pushed back when an ABC reporter questioned the timing of the work, calling the question “stupid” and framing the effort as about beauty, cleanliness and safety.
